
Cannabis Americana tells the intertwined American history of two strains of Cannabis. Cannabis sativa, the hemp plant, originally from Eastern China, its seeds were passed around the world as a common fiber plant. Cannabis indica, a folk medicine introduced from India in 1785.
Cannabis Americana also refers to a strain developed in the early 1900s by pharmaceutical companies Parke-Davis and Eli Lilly to create a stable, potent hybrid of Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa.
