Listen

Weed Patch 00:00Talkin' about when they hear that they say, "Here's Weed Patch".

Red 00:02He's got a very unmistakable laugh.

Talcon 00:11Okay. So today is February 17th, and I, Talcon Quinn, am here today with Weed Patch.

Weed Patch 00:24Yes.

Talcon 00:26Weed Patch and Red. Weed Patch, do you consent to having this conversation recorded and then later archived with the Cannabis Museum?

Weed Patch 00:38No, I don't care.

Talcon 00:40Okay, and with that, can it be used for future projects like podcasts or documentaries?

Weed Patch 00:48Yeah

Talcon 00:48Okay, Red, do you consent to being recorded today, and for it to be shared with the Cannabis Museum?

Red 00:55Yeah, it's okay.

Talcon 00:56Are you okay with people using it for future projects like podcasts and documentaries?

Red 01:00Yeah.

Talcon 01:01Awesome. Great. Thanks, guys. So, Weed Patch, let's start with you. How old are you today?

Weed Patch 01:0881.

Talcon 01:1081. So, what year were you born?

Weed Patch 01:121944.

Talcon 01:14And where did you grow up?

Weed Patch 01:16In Athens County.

Talcon 01:17Okay. And what about you, Red? How old are you?

Red 01:21I'm 70. Born in Scotland, came over here when I was a year old. My family's always been here. And that's basically how I got started in this area.

Talcon 01:35So you were born in Scotland, but you had roots to this region, so you came back.

Red 01:39Yeah, I was a military kid.

Talcon 01:41Okay.

Red 01:41My dad came back here after Korean War, and this is where we settled in.

Talcon 01:46Awesome. What about you, Weed Patch? You grew up here. What like what did your parents do? What was your life like as a kid here in Athens County?

Weed Patch 01:56My dad was in the construction business. He had a big equipment and did dirt work and that kind of stuff, and built ponds and stuff, and owned a gas station and did mechanic work.

Talcon 02:08Uh huh. So, how old were you when you first learned about cannabis?

Weed Patch 02:19Turned 18.

Talcon 02:21Did you learn about it here in Athens County?

Weed Patch 02:23No, I was in California on Christmas Eve. Well, I was in California about three months before Christmas. I was racing motorcycles, amateur stuff at that time, and a guy that was helping me that owned a big motorcycle shop in Logan, Ohio. He told me, you know, he couldn't help me no more. But he had a friend that had a big BSA dealership in California, and told me to call him, and I could probably get a ride. So I called him, and he said, "If you can show up at my motorcycle shop, I'll guarantee you a ride", but he said, "I won't send you no money to get there because I've done it before and the guys never showed up". So I left Athens County with $1.85 to my name and hitchhiked to California and walked in that old boy's shop and said, "Here I is".
