2. Who may use the site

You must be at least 18 to create an account or make a purchase. Anyone younger may browse the site and visit the museum with a parent or guardian, whose account and payment method are used for any booking. You are responsible for everything done through your account.

3. Accounts

Accounts are created and secured through Clerk. Give accurate details, keep your credentials to yourself, and tell us immediately if you think someone else has access.

We may suspend or close an account that is used to abuse the site, to harass staff or other visitors, to scrape the archive, or to break these terms or the law. If we close your account, active membership benefits stop, and unused prepaid value is refunded on a pro-rata basis unless the closure follows fraud.

4. Memberships and subscriptions

• Memberships are billed monthly or annually through Stripe, in advance, and renew automatically until you cancel.
• The price, cadence, and benefits shown on the plan page at the time you subscribe are the ones you get for that billing period.
• You may cancel at any time from Manage billing on your membership page. Cancellation stops the next renewal; benefits stay active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
• Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the next billing date.
• We may change plan prices or benefits with at least 30 days' notice by email. The change applies from your next renewal, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
• Memberships are personal and non-transferable. Household plans cover the people named on them.
• If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If it keeps failing, benefits pause until the balance is settled.
• Refunds are available within 7 days of a charge. After that, the period runs to its end and does not renew if you cancel.

5. Donations

Donations are voluntary gifts to the museum's operations, conservation, and programming, and are not payment for goods or services. Because they fund work as soon as they arrive, donations are non-refundable except where a charge was made in error — tell us within 30 days and we will look into it.

We send a receipt for every donation. Whether a gift is tax-deductible depends on the museum's current status and on your circumstances; ask your tax adviser rather than relying on anything on this page.

Recurring donations continue until you cancel them, on the same terms as a membership.

6. Tickets, events, and visits

• The museum operates by appointment. A ticket is valid for the date and time it names.
• Tickets may be rescheduled up to 24 hours before the booked time, subject to availability, and are refundable up to 7 days before the event unless the event page says otherwise.
• If we cancel or reschedule an event, you may take the new date or a full refund.
• Admission is subject to capacity, safety, and the museum's visitor rules. We may refuse or end a visit for behaviour that endangers the collection, staff, or other visitors, without a refund.
• Photography, filming, and recording on site are subject to the rules posted at the museum. Commercial shoots need written permission in advance.
• The museum holds historical material about cannabis. It does not sell, supply, or permit the use of cannabis on the premises.

7. Space rentals and private events

A rental enquiry is a request, not a booking. A booking exists only once we confirm it in writing and the deposit is paid. Rental terms — dates, hours, capacity, deposit, cancellation window, insurance, and what may be brought on site — are set out in the rental agreement for your event, which governs if it conflicts with anything here.

You are responsible for your guests and vendors, and for any damage to the building or the collection caused during your event.

8. Shop and print orders

Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax and shipping unless stated. We ship to the addresses shown at checkout, and title passes to you on delivery. Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees.

Returns of unopened, undamaged stock items are accepted within 30 days of delivery. Custom, personalised, and made-to-order prints are not returnable unless they arrive damaged or wrong — tell us within 14 days with a photo and we will replace or refund them.

If an item is listed at an obviously incorrect price or is out of stock after you order, we may cancel the order and refund you in full.

9. What you submit

When you send us a message, a volunteer application, an artifact offer, archive feedback, a member wall name and photo, or any other content, you keep ownership of it. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, use it to run the museum, and — for anything you have chosen to make public, such as a member wall entry — display it on the site.

You confirm that what you send is yours to send, is accurate, and does not infringe anyone's rights or privacy. Do not send confidential information, and do not send anything unlawful, defamatory, or harassing. We may remove any submission at our discretion.

Offering an artifact or document is not a transfer. Nothing enters the collection until we accept it in writing under a deed of gift or loan agreement. A volunteer application is not an offer of employment or a contract.

10. The archive and intellectual property

The site, its design, text, catalogue records, and photography of the collection are owned by the museum or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Some items in the archive are held under rights owned by third parties, and their records say so.

You may view, search, and cite the archive, and download or print individual records for personal research, teaching, and private study, with attribution to The Cannabis Museum. Anything else — republication, commercial use, exhibition, or licensing an image — needs our written permission. Write to us and we will tell you what is possible.

You may not scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically copy the archive, and you may not use it to train machine learning or generative AI models, without a written agreement with the museum. Automated access outside the published sitemap and robots rules is prohibited, and we rate-limit and block clients that attempt it.

11. Acceptable use

• Do not break the law, infringe rights, or help anyone else do either through this site.
• Do not probe, scan, or test the security of the site, or try to reach accounts, data, or systems that are not yours.
• Do not interfere with the site's operation, overload it, or bypass rate limits, paywalls, or member-only areas.
• Do not misrepresent who you are, or use another person's payment method or identity.
• Do not upload malware, or use the site to send unsolicited messages.

12. Third-party services

Payments run through Stripe, accounts through Clerk, email through Resend, and measurement and advertising through Google. Using those parts of the site means their terms apply to you as well as ours. We are not responsible for a third-party service's own outage, decision, or policy change.

13. Historical content and accuracy

The archive documents cannabis history, including advertising, medical claims, and political material from the periods it covers. Reproducing a historical document is not an endorsement of it, and historical medical or legal claims are not current advice.

Nothing on this site is medical, legal, or financial advice. Cannabis law differs by state and country and changes often; check the law that applies to you.

We work to keep records, hours, prices, and event details accurate, but we do not warrant that everything on the site is complete or current, and we may correct errors at any time.

14. Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the museum, its staff, trustees, and volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

16. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify the museum against claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site or the archive, or content you submitted.

17. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The courts of Athens County, Ohio have exclusive jurisdiction, and you consent to that venue.

Before filing anything, email info@cannabismuseum.com describing the problem and what you want. Most disputes are settled that way within 30 days, and we would rather resolve it than litigate it.

18. Changes, severability, and the whole agreement

We may change these terms. The date at the top reflects the current version, and material changes are announced by email or a notice on the site before they take effect. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms.

If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and any signed agreement for a rental or a gift to the collection are the whole agreement between us.
