Abstract

A nasty, outrageous mess of a book--beyond your wildest dreams, porn fans--by design, as a put-on and put-down of Yippie detractors and their hysterical assumptions. But like the gentle rain from heaven (in this respect only) it showers its offenses on all sides indiscriminately; and Chase Manhattan bankers are likely to be less riled than the straighter segments of the left when Christ, Buddha, Malcolm, Che, and Ho are invoked to sanctify the mindlessly (though inventively) dirty ""rituals."" Incessant in-group jokes and mutual admiration will leave most of the audience but definitely on the outside, as in a kind of stag-style clan film, and a stunningly cavalier treatment of actual horrors may well alienate some who otherwise identify with the group's freaky style. It's aggressive, frantic, and sometimes in spite of everything grossly funny, but--assuming these boys take at least themselves somewhat seriously--all in all an act of bad tactical judgment.
